This model includes a complete set of 9 planets, including Pluto, as well as 28 moons. A dynamic display shows the Moon on its orbit around the Earth, while the Earth itself circles the Sun.
Interestingly, Mercury orbits the Sun 1,028 times for every single orbit Pluto completes; in the model's mechanism, Mercury's orbit takes about 4 seconds, while Pluto needs about 4 hours.
The Sun, the planets and the moons are made of fine semi-precious stone spheres. Brass planet versions with stone moons are available on special order. The piece is battery-powered unless another option is specified.
A striking mechanism lies fully exposed beneath the rotating planets, revealing a detailed set of solid brass gear trains in action.
The refined craftsmanship continues in a twelve-sided oak casing that houses the gear assembly and rests elegantly on 12 solid brass feet, lending the piece additional elegance.
